2009 HERA JRP Call

2009 HERA JRP Call is now closed

On 9 January 2009, the HERA Joint Research Programme (HERA JRP) partners launched a joint call for trans-national Collaborative Research Projects (CRPs) in two humanities research themes: “Cultural Dynamics: Inheritance and Identity” and “Humanities as a Source of Creativity and Innovation”. By launching the first HERA JRP call for proposals, 13 national funding organisations want to create collaborative, trans-national research opportunities that will derive new insights from humanities research addressing major social, cultural, and political challenges facing Europe. In consultation with their national researcher communities, they have defined and developed common research priority themes, and created a new trans-national funding mechanism.

The Call was open to scholars located in Austria, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Slovenia, Sweden and United Kingdom, irrespective of their nationality. Successful proposals required the building of consortia of three or more partners based in three or more different HERA JRP countries. The total amount of funding available for both HERA JRP themes was 16,5 M€.

Proposal evaluation under the two HERA JRP themes was carried out in two stages (Outline and Full Proposals) by two international, independent HERA JRP Review Panels. In the second stage, the invited Full Proposals were assessed by at least three independent external expert referees. A list of all referee names unassigned to proposals used for the international peer review is published here. European Science Organisation, as the HERA JRP Handling Agency, managed the selection process.

In total, the two HERA JRP Review Panels “Cultural Dynamics: Inheritance and Identity” and “Humanities as a Source of Creativity and Innovation” have recommended 19 Full Proposals for funding out of the 55 submitted Full Proposals. The total budget requested by the 55 submitted Full Proposals amounted up to € 49.6M. As the total budget of the HERA JRP Call is limited to €16.5M, only those proposals of the highest quality can be funded.

On December 13, the HERA JRP Board met in Berlin and decided to accept the Review Panels’ recommendation.
Full information on the funded projects will be published once the contract negotiations are completed.
